01. THE CULTURAL OPPORTUNITY
Designing for the "Emotion Economy"
In an era of radical uncertainty, young generations are increasingly seeking "controllable elements" to navigate stress. My research indicated that over 40% of Gen-Z consumers prioritize "emotional value" in their lifestyle choices, leading to a surge in interest for both aromatherapy and spiritual divination.
WoodMe was conceived as a response to this shift. I identified a unique synergy between the Chinese Five Elements (Wu Xing) and olfactory psychology. The goal was to transform the abstract concept of "luck" into a tangible, proactive ritual of self-care, moving divination from a passive prediction to an active sensory intervention.

02. SENSORY MAPPING LOGIC
Translating Philosophy into Olfactory Language
The core of WoodMe lies in its rigorous cross-modal mapping system. I translated the metaphysical attributes of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) into specific scent profiles and visual identifiers:
Philosophical Alignment: Each element corresponds to specific personality traits and emotional voids.
The Scent Palette: I curated a collection of spices that embody these elemental energies—e.g., grounding "Earth" notes for stability, or invigorating "Wood" notes for growth.
Visual Synesthesia: The branding and UI utilize color theory derived from traditional Five Elements philosophy, creating a cohesive "synesthetic" experience where sight, thought, and smell converge to stabilize the user's psyche.
03. THE PHYGITAL ECOSYSTEM
Bridging Digital Insights with Physical Rituals
WoodMe is a holistic "Phygital" (Physical + Digital) service. I designed a seamless user journey that integrates personal data with physical interaction:
The Digital Companion (App): Users begin with a digital "divination" based on their current emotional state and traditional calendar data. The App acts as a personalized guide, recommending the "Element of the Day" to balance their inner energy.
The Physical Ritual: Beyond a screen-based experience, WoodMe culminates in a fragrance ritual. By engaging the sense of smell—the only sense directly linked to the brain's emotional center (the amygdala)—the product facilitates a deep, meditative state that digital-only solutions cannot achieve.
04. VISION: SOMATIC WELL-BEING
Design as a Medium for Healing
WoodMe represents my exploration of Somatic Design—an approach that respects the body’s intelligence and sensory capacity. In a world saturated with digital noise, this project demonstrates how we can leverage traditional wisdom and modern UX to create "healing interfaces."
This project serves as a cornerstone of my design identity: using technology and system thinking not just to optimize tasks, but to enrich the human sensory experience and build emotional resilience.
